Kuber or Kubera as he is sometimes called is considered in Hinduism to be as important as Laxmi, for the generation and accumulation of money and wealth. This mystic entity is sometimes called as the God of Wealth, sometimes as the Guardian of Wealth and sometimes as the Presiding Deity of the mystic entities, the Yakshas and the Yakshinis.
Since the time of the earliest Hindu Holy Scriptures, the Vedas, Kuber has been worshiped by those aspiring for money and wealth. These ancient texts, especially the Puranas are replete not only about the legends, but about the various kinds of rituals, mantras and prayers by which the worship of Kuber is performed.
Kubera is also recognized by other religions and cultures like Jainism and Buddhism as the Overlord of Wealth. Though there might be some differences in the physical description, the divine powers and various mythological legends about Kuber, one thing is certain, they all point towards the same mystic entity.
Even today, Kuber is widely worshiped in India and those countries that retain the influence of Hinduism.
